Bindi Sue Irwin is an Australian TV personality, conservationist, actress, and zookeeper. She is the elder daughter of the late conservationist and television personality Steve Irwin and his conservationist wife, Terri Irwin – the owner of Australia Zoo.
Recently, Bindi the Jungle Girl actress shared a touching video on her Instagram in which her thirteen-month-old daughter Grace Warrior recognized a photo of her grandparents, Terri and Steve Irwin, at the Australia zoo.
“Tears in my eyes as I share this video. We call my mum and dad, Bunny and Grandpa Crocodile with Grace. She loves them (and koalas) dearly. On every zoo walk, she searches for pictures of her grandparents, and it is beyond beautiful.” Bindi said in her video.
Her video received more than 8 million views, 687K likes, and 6245 comments where people adored little Grace for remembering her grandfather as ‘Grandpa Crocodile.’
Speaking to PEOPLE, Bindi, 24, said,
“We have so many documentaries of Dad, and we’re always playing them for Grace. It’s so fun to watch her study him. I didn’t realize how much Dad’s passion for life and his animated facial expressions — I mean, they captivate her.”
Bindi was just eight years old when her father, who rose to international fame with his Television documentary on wildlife called The Crocodile Hunter, died while shooting underwater with stingrays – he was shooting for his new underwater film called Ocean’s Deadliest.
Bindi shares her daughter Grace with husband Chandler Powell, whom she married in March 2020 after a long relationship of seven years.
“On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life. Chandler … I’m so looking forward to spending our forever together as your wife. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose, and unconditional love. Now let’s get married already!” She shared her big news on Instagram in July 2019.
Per Us Weekly, Bindi opened up about how she would make Steve a part of her big day.
“I really wanted Dad to be a big part of the day, so I’m excited to be able to incorporate him throughout the ceremony and the reception, and I think it’s going to be really special because I feel like his spirit lives on in us. It’s going to be a celebration of family and friends, our wildlife, and I think that night, it’ll be about our lives together and the joining of families. It’s going to be beautiful.”
“I definitely see parts of [Dad] in Grace,” says Bindi. “His determination and his inability to sit still. I think that’s really special. I’m excited to see as she grows up how her personality will develop. If Dad was around, honestly, we would never see her. He would be in love.”
“He’d just have her doing everything with him. We would only see her if she needed a feed and then be gone again.”
“It’s so lovely that without him knowing, he was creating the most wonderful TV programming for our daughter,” she continued. “She just stares at him in complete and utter fascination. She hangs on every word he says. Whether he’s talking about a croc or a spider, she thinks it’s amazing.”
