A faith-based musical that re-tells the story of Scripture and was produced by Kathie Lee Gifford will launch in theaters for one night only Thursday, Sept. 1.
Titled The Way, the film is narrated by Gifford and features some of the most well-known names in music, including Jimmie Allen, Danny Gokey, Larry Gatlin, Nicole C. Mullen and CeCe Winans. It features contemporary orchestral arrangements and grand outdoor settings.
Gifford said she wants The Way to inspire moviegoers.
“I want them to walk out deeply moved in their hearts and in their souls about how God’s plan for humanity is beyond beautiful. His whole thing in creating us was to have community with us,” Gifford told Christian Headlines. “He loves His children. … I want them to grow in their faith.”
Too often, Gifford said, modern society views the Bible as an “ancient text that is no longer relevant.” Her hope, she said, is that the film, “with modern music and visual storytelling,” will “reignite the passion for truth in today’s culture and in a younger generation.”
Songwriters Brett James, David Pomeranz, Louis York, Sal Oliveri and Mullen wrote the music.
“Because the stories are so epic, I wanted the scenery and the music to match the power of their stories,” Gifford said.
Much of it was filmed during the pandemic in the United States when international travel was difficult.
“Too many Christians think the Old Testament belongs to the Jews and the New Testament is ours because of Jesus,” Gifford told Christian Headlines. “Nothing could be further from the truth – it is just not true. It’s all one story. It’s one love letter from God, the Creator Elohim, to His children.”
The film is being released in theaters the same week her book, The God of the Way: A Journey into the Stories, People, and Faith That Changed the World Forever (W Publishing), hits stores. She wrote it with Rabbi Jason Sobel.
