An Australian woman has been left stunned after discovering she’s pregnant with two sets of identical twins at the same time.
Ebony Apps, 23, and her partner, Jayden, 21, are set to welcome the quadruplets in April, with medics also amazed by the extremely rare pregnancy.
“One of the nurses at our hospital said she had never seen a woman pregnant with two sets of identical twins during her 30-year career,” Apps exclaimed in an interview with Caters News on Friday.
“Our doctor told us that quadruplet pregnancies are around one in 700,000, and being pregnant with two sets of identical twins is even more rare,” she added.
The chances of such a pregnancy are about 1 in 70 million, according to AL.com.
The young couple were initially told that they were expecting twins at their first scan last September.
However, a month later, doctors discovered that there were two babies in each of the sacs, meaning that Apps is pregnant with two sets of identical twins.
After suffering two miscarriages before this pregnancy, Apps was in total disbelief when she was told she was carrying four babies.
“I almost passed out when we found out there were four and Jayden had no words,” she recalled. “There’s nothing that could prepare you for that news.”
The young couple currently live in a one-bedroom apartment, and were left worried about how they would be able to provide for their unexpectedly large brood.
However, Apps and her partner have been putting plans into place ahead of the arrival — and the miracle pregnancy has been surprisingly easy.
“Considering we found out that we are having four babies rather than just the one that we thought we would have, everything is going smoothly and working out,” the mom-to-be stated.
The couple will also soon learn the sex of their twins,
“We have our gender reveal coming up in the next few weeks, and I am so excited to find out what we’re having,” Apps said. “It’ll be nice to know what I am growing.”
Apps has scheduled a C-section for April, and the couple is trying to prepare as much as possible for their four new arrivals.
“We are moving into a new house next week and we are in the process of getting a bigger car too,” she declared. “I’m feeling pretty good about everything.”
“When we first found out the news, we both went into a state of utter shock and we were so worried about how we would care and provide for four newborns, but I know that we will manage it,” an optimistic Apps said.
