Kevin Bacon has had many iconic movie roles, one of them being his role in Footloose. Many people love that iconic movie and some of those people happen to be in high school.

A very special situation popped up and some high schoolers rallied together to get the actor’s attention and they finally did. Keep reading to know more about what happened!

The school where the movie Footloose was filmed, is planning to relocate. This year, the school will host its final prom which is going to be historic for more than one reason!

The movie Footloose was rereleased in 1984 starring Kevin Bacon as the new kid in town named Ren McCormack. The young man is ready to confront the town’s very strict rules against partying especially dancing. The principal photography for the movie was done in Utah with Payson and Payson High School being the site where the tractor and high school scenes were shot.

The school has a historic legacy, and the fact that Footloose was filmed there only added to it. Now, the school is intended for relocation, and the students at the school did something to make the last prom there a memorable one. The students started a petition to try and get actor Kevin Bacon to return to the school to attend the final prom at the school’s current location.

Bacon, in a recent interview, revealed that he had attended a Zoom meeting with the school. In the interview he shared how the petition had not gone unnoticed by him. He said, “It hasn’t gone unnoticed by me, not to mention the fact that you tied in SixDegrees.org, our foundation, and are trying to figure out ways to give back to your community.”

“It’s really inspirational, so thank you,” he went on, “And I’m gonna come. I gotta come.” The students began applauding at this, and it was deafening; their hard work had paid off!

Payson High School, which was featured in Footloose, was established in 1912. The building it is currently housed in was finished in 1967, just 17 years before Kevin Bacon danced his heart out there. The movie recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, for which Bacon returned to Utah as well.

“I have been so impressed with everything that’s been going on there with this crazy idea to get me to come back,” he gushed on Friday. “I’ve been amazed at the work that all of you have been putting into this, with the musical and the flash mobs and the re-creations.”

It seems like Payson High will be having a very legendary last prom!
