When we think of animals who have saved human lives more times than we can count, dogs are usually first on the list. While we DO think that our canine friends are amazing, they don’t have a monopoly on being saviors! Cats have quite a few stories to their names as well – and that list of videos is growing!
This story may just turn you into a cat person!
Ron Williams is from Sturgis, Michigan, and turned 85 last September! As you get on in years, your friend group tends to shrink and many older people turn to animals to keep them company. For Ron, a cat named Fluffy became his best friend after another friend bought that cat for him one day.
“I looked at him and hey, I just fell in love with him,” said Williams.
Like many of us do, Ron talked to his cat.
Talking to your pet is pretty normal. For Ron, it was part of his daily routine and Fluffy loved to sit and listen to his voice. Every time he would get a phone call, he would look at his cat and say “ring a ding”!
“The phone would ring, and I would say ‘ring-a-ding,’” said Ron. “And I didn’t know he’d pick up on it.” – Fox17
That little joke turned into something incredible when Ron had an accident.
While in the shower, he slipped and fell. With his arm pinned under him, he was stuck and completely unable to move.
“My arm was pinned under me, and the hours kept going by,” said Ron. “16 hours…” – Fox17
As the hours ticked by, things became scary for Ron.
From 8 in the morning until midnight, Ron was stuck in the shower.
He wasn’t just stuck, he was in serious pain. His door was closed, his life alert was in the other room on the charger, and his phone was out of reach in the bathroom. His only companion was Fluffy who happened to be in the bathroom with him when it happened.
Ron realized that he might have a shot.
“So I said ‘ring-a-ding fluffy. You’re my only hope,’” Ron said, tearing up. “And he was. It wasn’t even five minutes later I felt something hit my hand. And I’m here because of it.” – Fox17
Fluffy literally brought Ron his phone in his biggest moment of need! Ron firmly believes that if Fluffy wasn’t with him, he wouldn’t be alive today. If that doesn’t turn you into a cat person, nothing will!
Ron, a US Army vet who served in Korea, is fine.
He had some bruising and pain, but would eventually recover and be totally fine. Things could have turned out WAY worse if it wasn’t for his furry feline friend.
“He’s my hero, and he always will be,” said Ron. “He’ll never be away from me until the day I die.” – Fox17
