After a whole lot of anticipation, Beyoncé released her latest album, Cowboy Carter, yesterday (29 March).
And unsurprisingly, the BeyHive was absolutely buzzing away with the drop of a massive 27 tracks.
With so much of it kept under wraps right until its release, the new album was filled with surprises – from a song with Miley Cyrus to a cover of The Beatles.
Plus, to really keep up those country vibes, Beyoncé even included a cover of the legendary ‘Jolene’ by Dolly Parton – complete with an intro from ‘Dolly P’ herself.
The song has quickly become one of the most popular so far, hitting the charts as fans sing along to the bop.

Except they might not be singing along with the correct lyrics because Queen B has put an iconic spin on them.
In the original 1973 track, Dolly is ‘begging’ with a woman whose ‘beauty is beyond compare’ to not steal her husband.
But Beyoncé has very much put a ‘know your worth’ mood into her version and is very much ‘warning’ Jolene rather than pleading with her.
Before the song starts, Dolly P sends a message to ‘Miss Honey B’ as she says: “You know that hussy with the good hair you sing about? Reminded me of someone I knew back when, except she has flaming locks of auburn hair. Bless her heart.”

This reference from the country legend references ‘Becky with the good hair’, the unnamed woman Bey’s husband Jay-Z seemingly had an affair with back in 2015.
And users on X couldn’t help but point out: “Jolene is definitely @Beyonce warning Becky with the good hair to leave her man Sean carter.”
“Dolly Parton calling Becky with the good hair a hussie, leading into Beyoncé doing her version of Jolene is my multiverse of madness,” another joked.
XOne put: “Between Dolly calling Becky with the good hair a hussy and Beyoncé telling Jolene she don’t want no smoke, I’m on the f**king floor.”
As others said: “Beyoncé said ‘I ain’t forget about you Becky’.”
And it’s not just the reference to ‘Becky with the good hair’ fans are pointing out, but Beyoncé’s dramatic step up to warning Jolene rather than begging her.
Part of the superstar’s revised lyrics say: “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, I’m warning you, don’t come for my man… Don’t take the chance because you think you can.”
Compared to Dolly’s original: “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, I’m begging of you please don’t take my man … Please don’t take him just because you can.”
With bop after bop, fans and music lovers are obsessed with Cowboy Carter and it just easily has to be a contender for best album of the year, surely.
