In Phoenix, Arizona, a couple got lucky to find each other and experienced a beautiful yet tragic love story. This true story is from 2015 and it’s important to remind the world of the struggles some people go through with a smile on their faces.
In 2006, Carlos Morales, a Spanish by identity, went to a nightclub in Arizona. There he met a beautiful young lady named Erica. He saw her and instantly got intrigued.
According to Carlos, he didn’t speak any English but approached her anyway and asked her for a dance, to which she agreed.
Carlos told PEOPLE that they danced together and had fun. He gave Erica his phone number when she was about to leave, which she later threw away.
But then they met again after a few days through a mutual friend. This time the two talked a lot and got along really well. “And then we got into a relation,” said Carlos.
He said the moment he saw her, he knew she was the ‘one.’ So it didn’t take him long to propose to her. And that he was lucky that she liked him back and accepted his proposal.
So, they got married in Las Vegas in 2007. Carlos said that he learned the English language for Erica, and she learned Spanish for him.
He shared that they wanted a baby right away. So, they tried and succeeded as well. Erica got pregnant. He said they were really happy, but her pregnancy didn’t last long and ended in a miscarriage.
They waited for some time, and then Erica went through a fertility treatment “because we wanted children,” he said.
So, she conceived again in June last year, and this time the doctor told them that they weren’t going to have just one baby or two, but they were going to have FOUR babies; Quadruplets.
He said that they were very excited after hearing the news. He took special care of his beloved wife as she already had a lot on her plate. So, Carlos did all the house chores and didn’t let her do anything but rest.
“Her doctor told her she had to just relax. So that’s exactly what she did.”
He said the doctors closely monitored her throughout her pregnancy, and she was perfectly healthy. “There were no complications,” he added.
But on January 12, she experienced high blood pressure and was admitted to the hospital. But the doctors told them not to worry.
On January 15, while he was at work, Erica called him to say that the doctors wanted to deliver the babies ASAP!
“The doctor said she was having too many contractions, so it was time to deliver the babies,” Carlos said.
“We were excited, and we couldn’t wait for the babies to come. So, we took pictures before she went into the delivery room, made some videos, and family and friends surrounded her. I kissed her, and then I said to her, ‘Let’s get these babies out.’”
So, they delivered the babies, and “it was a moment of a lifetime.” He said emotionally.
He said she was still asleep after the babies were born, but she was okay. However, a few hours later, something happened, the machine started making noise, and the doctors asked him to leave the room.
And nearly one hour later, they informed him that Erica was no more. He said, “I froze.”
“How could this have happened?” She was fine, and then she wasn’t. She was alive, and then she was just gone.” He said that moment would haunt him forever.
He said he grieves his lovely wife every waking minute but has to stay strong for his four kids; three girls and one boy.
He also shared that they decided their babies’ names way before they were born. “The boy would be called Carlos Jr. the two girls, Tracey and Paisley. But we were yet to decide the fourth name; it was a girl.” Erica said we would decide after the delivery, but we couldn’t.”
“Later, after her tragic passing, the nurse asked me about the fourth name, and I knew by then what to name her. I named her “Erica.” He said while crying.
Lastly, he said that Erica’s mother is helping him take care of the babies.
“Erica was the most special person in the world, and she should be here to love her babies. I will always miss her.”
