It has been said that there is nothing quite so special as the bond between a girl and her horse. And that’s evident in this amazing video showing the friendship and gentle kindness between a three-year-old girl and her 16 and a half hand horse.
Sianna is a lovely little girl who has been raised around horses. As her mother explains in the video description, Sianna’s horse has come up lame, and she has developed a bond with her father’s horse, Cessna.
Sianna has been working with Cessna, a six-year-old Thoroughbred Draft Cross Mare. Cessna has such a patient and tender manner with this mighty little lady.
Sianna’s mom guides her daughter and Cessna through a demonstration of just what the two can do. Sianna begins by lunging her horse.
“When you lunge a horse, it moves around you in a circle on the end of a lunge line. Lunging is a useful exercise for both horse and handler. It is a way to let your horse safely burn off extra energy without you riding it and can help when teaching horse obedience.”
Sianna guides Cessna in a circle at the end of her rope, and the horse follows her easy tugs on the line. Once Sianna pulls on the rope Cessna knows to come back to rest. Then Sianna takes her into a lunge in the other direction.
“When done correctly, lunging can help a horse learn to be more flexible and balanced, as well as increase fitness if the horse has not been working. You can also use it to observe a horse’s gaits to see if it is lame. And, lunging can be done to help a rider learn skills without having to worry about controlling the horse.”
After a elegant lunge demonstration, it’s time for Sianna to get on this giant horse. Her mom lifts her up and she’s in the saddle. Well, she’s actually riding bareback with a bareback pad.
She looks at home up there on that horse. And with her dusty pink boots, she walks her horse around the horse pen.
One of the questions in the comments is about why the little girl isn’t wearing a helmet. I’m sure you are wondering, too. Sianna’s mom addresses her mistake in the video description.
“To all that have commented about the helmet. Sianna is required to wear a helmet every time she rides. She was riding Lady right before we did this video and I missed it that she took the helmet off. It was super hot and she must have set the helmet by the gate.”
Mom’s slip aside it is majestic to watch Sianna ride this noble steed. She takes her through a walk and into a trot.
Wikipedia gives us a definition. “The trot is a two-beat diagonal gait of the horse where the diagonal pairs of legs move forward at the same time with a moment of suspension between each beat.”
That definition is full of technical mumbo jumbo, but you can clearly see how elegant the little girl and her horse look when they are trotting around the pen.
